College Scholarships for Women – And How You Can Get One!

Pursuing a college degree is often a difficult task. It is expensive to enrol, and the money is never enough to continue and finish your degree. Women sometimes have a difficult time in college and often need extra financial support during these college years. The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is a body that has been empowering women since 1881 and has taken interest in their education. They give scholarships, awards and fellowships to women who wish to further their studies which includes helping the advancement of womankind. We have compiled a list of five of their awards that you may apply for and benefit from. Some are given to U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. and others are awarded to non-U.S. citizens.

  1. AAUW International Fellowships Program

This program gives scholarships to women who are non-US citizens or permanent residents in the United States from more than 130 nations. Women with U.S. equivalent bachelor’s degrees are selected based on their academic achievements and dedication to girls and women. Applications for the AAUW International Fellowships are open from August 1- December 1.   1. Eleanor Roosevelt Fund Award

The Eleanor Roosevelt Fund is awarded to an outstanding organization, institution, project or individual that has contributed to education and equality for women.   1. Selected Professions Fellowships

This prize is awarded to women who decide to pursue studies at U.S. institutions in degree programs where women’s participation is usually low. Persons that apply must be permanent residents of the United States or U.S. citizens. Awards are given on areas such as architecture, engineering and mathematics.   1. American Dissertation Fellowships

This scholarship helps offset the awardee’s living expenses while completing her dissertation. It must be used during the final year of completing the dissertation. The scholarship is open to all fields of study. The application process is open between August 1 to November 15.   1. American Postdoctoral Research Leave Fellowships

These fellowships were created to hep scholars to obtain tenure and similar promotions by allowing them to spend a year doing independent research. The goal of the fellowship is to increase the quantity of women in higher education. Applications must be submitted between August 1 and November 15.
